ARE COMICS THE NEW BEARER BONDS?

Okay, hear me out.

A buddy of mine said the other day Said that comics are “just paper.” And yeah, technically that’s true — kinda like how a $100 bill is just a fancy piece of cotton, or a Picasso SKETCH is basically something your kid DRAWS AT FRIENDLY’S.

But let’s be real — “technically” doesn’t carry much weight when you’re talking about something that hits you in the chest.

Because here’s the thing: old comics — especially the Golden and Silver Age stuff — actually work a lot like bearer bonds.

What’s a Bearer Bond?

Quick version: bearer bonds were these old-school financial papers. No name on them, no login, no account. If you held one, you owned the money it was worth. That’s it.

Now take that idea and picture a Fantastic Four #1 in a COMIC CLEAR BAG & BOARD.

Sounds Pretty similar, right?

Real Value in a Comic Book

What makes comics so wild is that you don’t need an app, or a password, or a banker to know what it’s worth. If you’re holding a slabbed Amazing Fantasy #15, you’re basically holding a small fortune. It’s real, physical value, packed in a 12¢ cover.

And unlike crypto or stocks, you can actually read it while you wait for your pizza rolls to finish.

Limited Supply = Big Value

Here’s the deal: we can’t make more vintage comics. The presses shut down decades ago. What’s left out there? That’s all there is.

And that kind of built-in scarcity makes comics feel a lot like gold — or maybe even better, because instead of a shiny rock, you’ve got Detective Comics #27 or a PUNCH COMICS #11 WITH STRIKING VISUALS, AND INCREDIBLE DETAILS.

STORY-BACKED SECURITIES

This is where comics totally beat bearer bonds. Comics have stories inside them, yeah, but they also have stories on them. That folded corner? That old stamp on the back? THE TICKS UP THE SPINE? That’s part of its life. Some kid probably bought it off a spinner rack in 1958, rolled it up, and read it ten times in a day that summer.

IN additiON, Bearer bonds don’t come with Jack Kirby splash pages. Comics do.

A Little Volatile, But In a Fun Way

Sure, the market jumps around. A single rumor about some random D-list hero getting a cameo can send prices through the roof overnight. But the heavy hitters? They keep going up over time. Slow and steady — like gold, BUT if gold had backup stories by Wally Wood & LETTERS FROM STAN LEE.
