HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILL EISNER!

Will Eisner, one of the pioneers of the comic book industry, was born on this date in 1917. Eisner was not only an incredible talent but also a savvy businessman and an innovator in the field.

In late 1936, he and Jerry Iger founded the Eisner/Iger Studio, a creative shop that worked with artists to produce new comics for publishing companies. Through this studio, many creators got their start in the comic book industry—most notably, Jack Kirby.

Eisner was a gifted writer as well as an artist, creating the legendary comic hero The Spirit in the late 1930s. His influence extended far beyond traditional comics; he is often credited with pioneering the graphic novel format with his groundbreaking work A Contract with God.

While Eisner’s name may not be as widely recognized as Stan Lee’s, his contributions to the world of comics are unparalleled.
