MOVIE REVIEW: VERTIGO
This week, WE HAVE ONE LAST HITCHCOCK FILMS & ONE OF HIS most famous films: Vertigo. This one is different from some of his other thrillers IT Focuses NOT on action or murder plots, Vertigo dives into obsession, identity, and manipulation. It’s a film that sticks with you long after it’s over.
Monsters/Villains: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (7.8)
There isn’t a traditional “villain” in Vertigo, but the real horror comes from obsession. Gavin Elster is the mastermind behind the mystery, but Jimmy Stewart’s character, Scottie, is just as unsettling in his own way,
Actors/Characters: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (9.0)
Jimmy Stewart gives one of his best performances, playing a man who slowly loses himself in his obsession. He starts off likable, but by the end, he’s downright disturbing. Kim Novak is fantastic in a tricky role, playing both the mysterious Madeleine and the vulnerable Judy. Her transformation is haunting, and you really feel for her. Barbara Bel Geddes, as Midge, is the only grounded character.
Story: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (8.7)
The story starts as a detective mystery but turns into something much deeper and darker. It’s about love, loss, and control—and how far someone will go to chase an illusion. The big twist comes earlier than expected, but it makes the final act even more tragic.
JOE’s SCORE: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (9.1)
Vertigo isn’t a typical Hitchcock thriller—it’s more psychological than suspenseful. But it’s a beautifully shot, emotionally gripping film that lingers in your mind. With great performances and an unforgettable ending, it’s one of Hitchcock’s best.
