MOVIE REVIEWS: REAR WINDOW (1954)

This week, we’re reviewing our second film from the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock: Rear Window. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. From the very beginning, this film pulls you in. Jimmy Stewart delivers an incredible performance as the lead, and Grace Kelly is tremendous

What makes a Hitchcock film stand out is the precision—there are no throwaway scenes. Every moment, every line of dialogue, serves a purpose. Now, onto the review:

Monsters/Villains: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (8.2)

Raymond Burr is fantastic from a distance in this one. He plays Lars Thorwald, a man with a chilling plan to murder his wife. If it weren’t for Jimmy Stewart’s character’s unfortunate accident, Thorwald might have gotten away with it!

Actors/Characters: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (8.9)

This might be Jimmy Stewart’s best role. He’s phenomenal as L.B. Jefferies, a photographer stuck in his apartment for months while recovering from a broken leg. Grace Kelly is stunning and steals every scene she’s in. Thelma Ritter also shines as Stella, Jefferies’ nurse, who fully buys into the conspiracy theory that Thorwald has killed his wife.

Story: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (8.7)

The story is gripping and compelling from the start, taking you on a thrilling roller-coaster ride. It’s suspenseful, intriguing, and features a perfectly fitting ending.

Joe’s Score: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (9.4)

One of my all-time favorite movies, Rear Window easily lands in my top 15 films. It’s my favorite Jimmy Stewart performance and my second favorite Hitchcock film. This is a movie you can watch over and over again!
