That's right, from the fourth appearance of Batman, Detective Comics #31 from September 1939, with a cover by one of the biggest names in comics with the smallest resumes: Bob Kane, with a little help from Sheldon Moldoff. The Tec #31 is the pinnacle book; it represents the dividing line from the Pulp Era and the start of the amazing world of superheroes. Nothing quite gives you that feel. It's a classic, but as we said, it's an impossible question to answer.
