HalloweeN Movie Review: The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)
In the annals of film history there are truly few masterpieces; CITIZEN KANE, DIABOLIQUE, Hitchcock’s SHADOW OF A DOUBT— but none of them can hold a candle to the Kolchak like heroics of Luther Heggs. From its frightening opening scene to its atmospheric Haunted House adventure to its surprise ending this is a movie that can be watched again and again!

While not your typical horror film, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken features a Haunted House that I believe is the neighboring house to 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The Haunted house which might have a ghost or two are certainly the biggest monster of the film but is certainly not he only Villain!

Don Knotts shines as Luther Heggs or is it Barney Fife, anyways he plays a nervous typesetter who finds himself staying in the House which 20 years earlier was the site of a murder/suicide. His comedic timing and physical humor are on full display, making every scene memorable. The supporting cast, including a quirky group of townsfolk, adds to the film's charm and humor, creating a delightful ensemble.

The plot follows Luther as he spends a night in a supposedly haunted house. The storyline combines mystery and comedy, with plenty of laughs along the way. With a twist ending that might have inspired some of the great twists in cinema history!
