HALLOWEEN MOVIE REVIEW: THE THING (1982)
Tonight we have another reccomendation for the movie review, we're diving into the icy horror of The Thing. Released in 1982, this film has become a classic, mixing sci-fi with edge-of-your-seat suspense.
Rankings:
Monsters/Villains: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (7.4)
The real star here is the alien creature that can imitate any living thing. The special effects are shocking and impressive, showcasing grotesque transformations that still amaze viewers today. The idea that anyone could be the Thing creates intense paranoia and fear.
Actors/Characters: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (6.8)
Kurt Russell leads a great cast as MacReady but after Russell I think the next big name is Wilfred Brimley, not exactly a whos who on the actors here. However decent job from the rest of the cast. The tension among the crew as they realize the danger they face makes the horror even more gripping. You can really feel their fear and distrust.
Story: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 (8.8)
Based on the story “Who goes there?” by John W Campbell. This version sticks more to the original story then the original movie. Set in a remote Antarctic research station, the story unfolds slowly but surely. As the characters realize they’re in danger, the tension builds with themes of isolation and survival. The pacing is just right, leading to some shocking moments.
Joe’s Score: 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖(7.7)
Also been a favorite of mine, and usually is a Summer movie when it almost hits 100 degrees here. Might be Carpentry’s best
